I don't really know how to explain it, but the way they change the writer's work to fit the movie format takes a lot of what made the original special and just throws it out, or splits it up in order to make sequels. I get that he's supposed to be disliked so the audience has someone to root against though. In it's time it was fantastic, I remember loving it as a kid (when I probably shouldn't have been watching it) but as a jaded adult, I found that Jeff Goldblum's character was way too annoying. I rented the movie before I bought this audiobook, and I found quite a few things I didn't like about it already. it makes the reveal a lot better, even though I went in knowing they would be in the book. I also really liked the slow lead up to there being dinosaurs. Of course, the first hour or two is dedicated to teaching the reader about genetic science and all that, which is pretty dry, but necessary if you don't know anything about it. The book continues longer than the movie, and it feels a lot better in terms of pacing. The descriptions of the dinosaurs make them a lot creepier, and being able to know what the characters think about and feel is extremely important, especially when they're confronted with the dinosaurs. I don't want to be "that guy", but I honestly love the book compared to the movie.
